An important asset to South Florida, mangrove trees help to protect the coastline from erosion, and are an environmental habitat. It is able to exist in salty water, as it can convert it to fresh water for its own use. Its root system makes new land.
I found these trees at Matheson Hammock, a wonderful park in Miami.

Commonly called the Australian Pine, this is a casurina, brought to Florida many years ago, and so is considered a nuisance tree. It is quickly disappearing from the landscape, as it is being removed because it's invasive and considered exotic. Nonetheless, I have seen it all my life all around South Florida and truly love it. I mourn the fact that it will soon be a memory.
